10 Ways to Save Cooking Gas

  1. Gather all the recipes for cooking before you run the stove. Avoid the habit of running in search of cooking stuffs after lighting up the gas stove for it results in pretty big fuel loss.
  2. If you want to halt cooking for a while, make it a point to switch off the gas stove.
  3. Use water only in required quantities for cooking. The more water you use for cooking, the more will be the fuel loss.
  4. The gas stove will be having burners of different size. Use the burner that best suits the size of the vessel in which you cook. Control the flames in such a way that it’ll concentrate beneath the vessel alone. The burner which is bigger in size consumes about 15% excess of gas when compared to the small burner.
  5. When you cook, put the lid on the cooking vessel. This helps to retain the heat. This practice saves time as well.
  6. When you heat up the food, make sure that the stove is in simmer position. In simmer position, only one-third or one-fourth of the gas will come out.
  7. Cook using vessels that absorb heat quickly. It is advisable to cook in vessels having flat bottoms and copper plating for such vessels speed up the cooking.
  8. Those who cook food in gas ovens should not open the oven every now and then, once the time is set for this results in fuel loss as well as heat loss.
  9. Always keep the gas stove and cooking vessels clean. Filthy burners and carbon coated vessels lead to fuel loss.
  10. Check out whether the flames are blue in color because blue flames indicate that the gas stove is in a fit state. Yellow flames stand for fuel loss. In such situations do get the service of a stove mechanic.
